The GE Innovation Centre is predominantly a facility for brainstorming and problem solving. It is a place to test ideas, to undertake research, experiment and communicate with GE staff and engineers. The centre is primarily a series of function spaces for the presentation and communication of new GE products and innovations. With this in mind, the aim of the interior design is to fuse these elements together with a unique ambience representing innovation, problem solving and education.
Inspired by Parc de la Villette in Paris, the design and planning of the GE Innovation Centre should be viewed as a science park on a smaller scale. Thus, the design of the park is organised around a series of points, lines and surfaces to create opportunities for interaction. The GE DTV Innovation Centre is laid out in distinct routes and zones which are defined by the existing building structure, as well as setting out a circular journey around the floor plate to ensure that the visitor experiences all aspects of GE Innovation.
