GE Ecomagination Centre Masdar

GE Ecomagination Centre Masdar has won the MENA Interior Design Award for “Interior Design: Corporate Space Small” 2014.

The GE Ecomagination initiative was originally launched in 2005 as a hub of research and development, to measure clean energy growth and reduce GE’s own carbon footprint. The center acts as a technology platform to drive cleaner energy solutions. As such, Masdar City provides a very appropriate environment to house the center, being as it is one of the few zero carbon and self sufficient cities in the world. The design brief involved designing a contemporary space to serve as a hub for local innovation, integrating educational opportunities into the community at large.

Spread over an area of 840m2, the Ecomagination Center presents a unique journey for visitors, designed to showcase innovation. It provides strategic private and public zones to encourage interaction between people. Intelligent machines and incorporated wall panels serve to advance analytics and improve productivity and research. Materiality is of key importance, particularly in terms of capturing and reflecting a true sense of sustainability and fluidity within the space. Sustainable resin flooring, concrete, living green wall, recycled glass and recycled bamboo all combine together to form a rich and warm material palette for this project.
