Alila Villas in Musandam is conceived as a luxury residential and resort development, comprising a top tier boutique hotel, destination spa and residential estates with private villas. The development is located on the Musandam Peninsula in the northern most region of Oman at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf. Three primary hotel buildings occupy a prominent natural acropolis to the northern most tip of the peninsula, affording ease of access to beach and marina amenities. Included are reception and incense courts, spa and restaurant facilities.
The design draws from the site, using courtyards, outdoor pavilions and infinity edged reflecting pools to enhance and acknowledge the experience of the surrounding landscape and expansive sea / peninsula views beyond. Soft and hard landscaping forms an important component punctuating building forms with tiered terraces that fall and describe the site topography further. Eighty individual hotel villas then cling to the surrounding slopes in a manner reminiscent of local Omani villages. The hotel villas, many with private pools have been designed as spacious self contained units. Drawing on traditional Omani inspired architecture and contemporary Arabic design, indigenous building materials were used to develop a strong sense of place.
Each villa includes a master bedroom with integrated living area, bathrooms feature a rain shower and free standing bath tub that offers panoramic sea views. All rooms in the villa open onto a veranda or face towards the sea or indeed onto an inner courtyard and reflecting pool. Folding glass and timber walls maximise natural light and ventilation.
