AMMROC is a major government funded military aviation facility based in Al Ain international airport in Abu Dhabi. AK Design was appointed to provide Interior Design services for 13 buildings as a specialist consultant under the main contractor for the project. These structures constitute a world class aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at the airport and vary between a high end office building and other industrial building types which have offices and miscellaneous operational facilities within. The principal project components included the Headquarters Building or HQB which contains high end office environments, the GSE Training Centre with quality standard work places and training facilities, other industrial grade IBS structures with offices and working areas.
Significant assignment challenges included the complete redesign of multiple interior spaces while respecting the previously approved spatial hierarchy, fixed partition layouts and corresponding MEP detailed technical packages. AK Design was initially tasked with generating a key series of digital images so as to convey the interior ambience to project stakeholders in parallel with an active project programme and a targeted completion date. Creative factors required by the AMMROC client included references to the aerospace sector, the Arabic culture and immediate desert environment all interwoven in a balanced contemporary design aesthetic. An innovative design manual approach facilitated a world wide procurement strategy to meet critical milestones.
